12 inmates escape from correctional facility in Kogi State

At least 12 inmates have reportedly escaped from the Federal Correctional Center, Kotonkarfe, Kogi State in the early hours of Monday with one already rearrested and and providing valuable information to security agencies.

Reports say the inmates fled through the tower without causing structural damage to the facility.

In a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo said the jailbreak theory is unacceptable to the State Government as there are clear evidences of internal compromise and collaboration, leading to the unfortunate breach.

The statement commended the Federal Correctional Center and security agencies fortheir prompt response and management of the situation and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individual or activities in their communities to law enforcement authorities.

The statement said that Governor Usman Ododo has directed the State Security Adviser to work closely with the Federal Correctional Center and all relevant security agencies to ensure such incident does not recur.

The state government assured the people of the state that there is no cause for panic as it is working with security agencies to safeguard lives and property across the state.
