‘They couldn’t have survived losing each other’ – Wife mourns husband and 12-year-old daughter killed in motorcycle crash

A Colorado, USA mother is grieving the tragic loss of her husband and daughter following a devastating motorcycle crash in Thornton. Brian Cirbo, 38, and his 12-year-old stepdaughter, Brooklyn Lopeman, were riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle home from Brooklyns volleyball practice on Tuesday, April 15, when they were struck by a BMW driven by a 17-year-old boy. Brian died from his injuries the same day. Brooklyn was placed on life support at Childrens Hospital Colorado and passed away one week later, on April 22. A lot of her teammates saw it, Brooklyns mother, Devin Lopeman Cirbo, told CBS Colorado. Brooklyn wasnt breathing and they did CPR, but Brian was able to talk. He kept telling the officers to call his wife, and they told me to come.   By the time Devin reached the hospital, her husband was gone. Her helmet was on the entire time, Devin explained, but because of how she was hit, there was catastrophic swelling in her brain. Before Brooklyn was taken off life support, Devin said her family was working with Donor Alliance to help others through organ donation. We were supposed to have a whole life still, and now its gone, she said. The teen driver, whose name has not been released, was arrested on suspicion of careless driving resulting in death and later released. The investigation is ongoing. Theyre working with accident reconstruction experts to figure out what exactly happened, Devin said. I know the kid who hit them stayed at the scene and called 911. I know he didnt set out to destroy my family but he didnt look. People have to look for bikes.  Devin described the bond between Brian and Brooklyn as unbreakable. There was so much joy. They were both complete joy, she said. I think they couldnt have survived losing each other. Thats why I lost them both. Brian, a retired firefighter, was remembered for his big heart. He loved to sing; he loved to dance. He was everybodys biggest fan, Devin said. Having his kids was the light of his life. He embraced my kids like his own. Brooklyn, an avid volleyball player, was described as having the most amazing smile and the most amazing soul. A GoFundMe page was launched to support funeral and medical expenses. This unimaginable tragedy has shaken everyone who knows and loves them, the campaign reads. Brooklyn is a bright, kind, and talented young woman with a deep passion for volleyball and a heart that touches everyone she meets. Prime Volleyball Academy, where Brooklyn played, honored her on Instagram, writing: She was a light in our volleyball family, known for her spirit, kindness, and unwavering dedication.
