Abia state workforce will be among the first to receive the 70,000 Naira New National Minimum Wage as the state government says it is committed to start paying the minimum wage beginning this October.
The State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, said this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the weekly Executive Council meeting.

Kalu noted that payment of the minimum wage is in line with the state Government’s commitment to the welfare of workers.
The Commissioner also said that the State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Governor will be holding a sickle cell awareness workshop for members of the public.
