ADC not hijacked by Atiku, Mark, others – Nyong

Dr. Effiong Nyong, national publicity secretary (South) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has refuted claims that the party has been hijacked by former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, and others as a political vehicle to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
In an interview with DAILY POST POST, Nyong clarified that those prominent figures were only leveraging their individual strengths, and were united with the aim of confronting and reversing the tide of bad governance that had plagued Nigeria.
Nyong, who was the governorship candidate of the ADC in 2023 in Cross River State said, “I think it is very wrong to say that ADC has been hijacked.
“In the interest of the country, these people, having noticed the drift into destruction and valuing their individual strengths, decided to come together and tame the scourge.
“Disgruntled persons are also free to say what they want, it is within their rights.”
He cautioned against random statements, advising that people should not be stampeded into making statements for or against.
According to him, “The objective of the coalition is to rescue ourselves from those that have captured Nigeria with impunity and are boasting about it.”
He stated that the year 2025 marks only the halfway point for the current rulers of Nigeria, and that compatriots expected to see a comparison of two scenarios – what life was like two years ago and now.
He noted that current leaders had been more focused on getting endorsements for re-election into the next term that is two years away than focussing on impacting the lives of the people.
