Residents of Aiyetoro, a riverine community in ilaje Local Government area of ondo state ravaged by sea incursion in the last twenty five years have called on government not to abandon the community.
The residents while narrating their ordeal say they are exploring ways of utilising the sea wind and mass water flow to generate renewable energy for the benefit of the community amidst the negative impact of the surge on their communities.
known as the ” happy city” Aiyetoro, a riverine community in ilaje Local Government area of ondo state has been battling with the challenges of encroachment into their lands by the ocean for about twenty five years which has led to significant land loss and displacement.
Several human interventions have failed to address the worsening situation arising from the encroachment by water.
In the face of the disturbing trend, Representatives of the ondo state Government and intervention agencies were in the community to meet with the leadership and residents of Ayetoro to explore ways to harness the advantages of the wind and the water flow for renewable energy to improve quality of life of the people.
It is the believe by both residents of the impacted communities and other critical stakeholders including state government representatives that the initiative if properly harnessed, Will revive economic activities and increase social interaction of residents of Aiyetoro and adjourning communities.
