A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in Zamfara State, Abdullahi Shinkafi, has alleged an assassination attempt on his life, claiming that bad politicians sponsored armed bandits to eliminate him over his critical stance about notorious bandits’ leader, Bello Turji.
He raised the alarm while addressing journalists at his residence in Gusau, the State Capital, where he disclosed that some individuals had attempted to attack him during a wedding ceremony he attended at a Mosque in Gusau last Friday. But he survived the attack due to the prompt intervention of Security Operatives who stopped the perpetrators, whom he identified as armed bandits bearing dangerous weapons.
Shinkafi alleged that his attempted attack may not be unconnected with his recent comments over the failure of the security agencies to capture the notorious bandit’s Leader, Bello Turji who has been terrorizing Zamfara communities and issued the latest threat to attack Sokoto and Zamfara States Communities if his ally Baka Wurgi who was arrested at a hospital bed in Shinkafi by the military is not released.
He explained that he was at Rabi’a Jum’at Mosque to attend the wedding Fatiha of his associate’s daughter when a group of youthswielding dangerous weapons approached him, shouting insults and attempting to attack him; it took the prompt intervention of Security Operatives and his political associates to save his life; if not, he would have been killed.

Shinkafi insisted that he recognized the attackers, who were APC members and their mission was to silence him because of his open criticism of the failure to arrest Bello Turji and his stance that they won’t allow anyone to hijack their party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to deploy more security operatives to address the insecurity plaguing Zamfara, particularly ensuring the arrest of Bello Turji and his foot soldiers to restore peace and stability in the Northwest zone.
The State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had earlier, in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, condemned the attempted attack on one of their Chieftains, describing it as “unacceptable” and assured members of justice and that they should always leverage on party channels of putting their grievances across to the leadership.
