Bill For FRSC Officials To Bear Arms Scales Second Reading In Reps

A Bill seeking to create a special armed squad for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has scaled through the second reading on the floor of Nigeria’s House of Representatives.

If passed into law, the legislation will enable officials of the FRSC bear arms, which will effectively aid the operations of the corp.

The Bill sponsored by two lawmakers, Abiodun Derin Adesida and Olaide Lateef Muhammed seeks to amend the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Act, 2007 to provide for the establishment of FRSC Special Armed Squad.

While leading debate on the Bill, the lawmaker noted that the proposed legislation is also seeking to empower the Corps with the sole responsibility for road traffic administration and safety management, preventing and minimising road traffic crashes on public roads, supervision of users of such public roads and regulation of traffic.
