Catechist, wife blame arsonists as fire destroys home in Umuahia

A Catechist serving in a Catholic Church at Amaokwe Ugba, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, Mr Benjamin Amaechi and his wife, Margaret have cried foul, following the early morning fire that destroyed their home this week.
The couple, who spoke to journalists after the incident, alleged that their four-bedroom apartment may have been set ablaze by persons they had advised to repent and turn away from their bad characters.
The fire victims said that the inferno which started from the room of the Catechist while they were still asleep, swiftly spread to other parts of the building, consuming everything they owned and leaving only the clothes they were putting on at the time of the incident.

The building, according to them, was razed to ashes despite the intervention of sympathetic members of the community and personnel of Abia State Fire Service.
According to Margaret Amaechi, a teacher, there was no electricity spark or surge before the fire outbreak.
Speaking further, her husband, Mr Benjamin Amaechi lamented that the corpse of his mother-in-law, whose burial is coming up in March is still in the mortuary, adding to his sorrows.
The couple, who thanked God for sparing saving them from being consumed, appealed to individuals to come to their rescue.
