Delta police reacts to viral video of woman accusing its officers of assaulting her Ghanaian/German husband

The Delta state police command has denied claims made by a Nigerian woman that her Ghanaian/German Husband was assaulted by some men of the state police command along the Agbor-Benin expressway.  In a video that went viral, the woman said she and her husband are based in Germany, that they recently came to Nigeria for a family celebration, and that it was her husband’s first time coming to Nigeria. She mentioned that after the celebration in the village, they decided to travel by road to Lagos. She noted that on their way, they accosted some police officers conducting a stop and search exercise. She said the officers searched all their bags and in one of the bags, found her husband’s camouflage trousers, which they said were against the law.. She said that an argument ensued, and one of the officers allegedly assaulted her husband by holding him around the neck.  Reacting to the viral video, the spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, said the claims made by the woman were false and baseless.On the 8th of May 2025, Policemen of the command, while on stop and search duty along the Agbor-Benin Express road, intercepted a commercial sienna vehicle carrying about seven occupants. The occupants and their luggage were subjected to a search, but this did not go down well with the Nigerian woman who recorded the video, and she started insulting and harassing the Policemen. As seen in the Video, the Police were calm and professional despite all her provocative comments. Her claim that the policemen assaulted her husband is false and a deliberate attempt to paint the image of the police force in a bad light.
