The Department of State Services (DSS) in Zamfara State has successfully arrested a suspected fleeing gunrunner who has been tracked from Niger Republic to Zamfara State
The DSS presented the suspect to Governor, Dauda Lawal, of Zamfara State at the Government House in Gusau late on Tuesday
Reacting to the development, Governor Lawal applauded the efforts of the DSS and other security agencies for exhibiting diligence and professionalism in tracking and capturing the suspect.
He stressed the significance of public cooperation and support in fighting criminal activities in the State.
The Governor disclosed that the suspect had been under surveillance and was thoroughly tracked from the Niger Republic into Zamfara State, demonstrating the effectiveness of cross-border intelligence collaboration.
The operation, which also involved troops from the 1 Brigade of the Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma was based on intelligence about arms dealers operating from the Niger Republic.
Among the firearms recovered from the suspected gunrunners were 2PKT machine guns, 9 AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and 9 rounds of PKT ammunition.
