ECOWAS Activates Standby Force to Fight Terrorism

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has activated its Standby Force to curb terrorism and other trans-border crimes in the subregion.

The Nigerian Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru made this known in Abuja at the 43rd Ordinary meeting of ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff.

He said the economic growth of the region is dependent on stable peace in the subregion.

The Minister added that there is a need for members of ECOWAS to close ranks against all forms of threats to the region.
