Kidnapped Catholic Priest Philip Ekweli of St Peters Catholic church Ivhiukhua in Etsako East local government area of Edo state has regained his freedom after ten days in the captivity of suspected herdsmen.
This was contained in a press release made available to journalists on Friday by the public relations officer of Edo state police command Joel Yamu .
According to him, an intensive search and rescue operation by Police operatives and vigilante members led to the release of Reverend Father Phillip Ekweli on Thursday, 13th of March 2025 at about 5pm at Amughe Community.

Joel Yamu however, regretted the death of the seminarian Peter Andrew who was kidnapped with him.He says effort is ongoing to recover his remains through intensive bush combing and to catch up with other fleeing gang members after one of them was killed and four others arrested on the day of the kidnapping about a fortnight ago.
