The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede on Thursday inaugurated a newly constructed Forensic laboratory at the Commission’s Port Harcourt zonal office in Rivers State, with the assurance that the anti-graft agency is working tirelessly to improve its investigative prowess.
The EFCC boss explained that the laboratory will fast track investigations and speedily resolve issues on economic crimes.
The EFCC Chairman and his team who arrived at the premises of the Port Harcourt Zonal office firstly inspected a guard of honor, before proceeding to the venue for the unveiling of the Forensic laboratory, where top officials of other sister security agencies were already seated. Giving insight on the Forensic laboratory, the boss of the anti-graft agency affirmed that the establishment of the facility will expose crimes, and secure speedy justice in finance-related crimes in the oil and gas sector.
A representative from a foreign non governmental organization emphasized that it was the quest to nip corruption in the bud that drove the body to partner the Commission to advance its fight against financial crimes.
The EFCC Chairman and the dignitaries were conducted round the laboratory complex with the experts giving tips on how the machines function, indicating that it is made up of about 85 percent technology that will help to fight theft in the oil and gas sector, and detect substandard products.
