FRSC confirms two dead in Umuahia road accident

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Abia State Sector Command, has announced that a fatal road accident along the Umuahia-Arochukwu road on Saturday claimed two lives.
The Sector Commander of FRSC, Abia State, Mrs Ngozi Ezeoma who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, said the accident involved one Mark truck and a tricycle with registration number ATN 201 VU.
Ezeoma said upon receiving the crash report at 4:33 pm, the FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene within two minutes to carry out emergency response operations.
She said preliminary investigation suggested the probable cause of the crash to be speed limit violation (SLV), aggravated by wet weather conditions, as it was raining at the time of the accident.
The FRSC sector commander added that while the road is paved, visibility and control may have been compromised due to the weather.
Ezeoma, who said that the injured victims were immediately transported to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Umuahia, for prompt medical attention, disclosed that the two deceased victims have been deposited at the FMC Umuahia mortuary.
“The FRSC extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
“We also appeal to all road users, particularly commercial drivers, to obey speed limits, especially during adverse weather conditions, and to exercise caution and patience at all times as
the Corps remains committed to its mandate of ensuring safer roads and fuller lives in Abia State and beyond,” she added.
