Goodluck Jonathan Flags Off New Bayelsa International Stadium Project

Former Nigeria’s President Dr Goodluck Jonathan has campaigned For the setting up of a special intervention fund for sports development in the country and the welfare of sports veterans who had made the Nation proud to encourage young sports men and women both at the National and state level

He made the plea during the groundbreaking ceremony of the 25,000 seater expendable Bayelsa International Stadium with modern facilities of international standard inYenagoa.

Activities marking the 5th anniversary of Governor Douye Diri’s administration’ continued on Monday with the ground breaking ceremony of a new stadium.project

Former Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan performed the ground breaking ritual, acknowledging the significance of such project and the need to establish a trust fund for sports development in the country.

In their goodwill messages, Chairman National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and others, commended the state government for the feat also pledged to work with the state to ensure the stadium meets the required standards of CAF and FIFA

For Governor Diri, his vision is acknowledging sports as a vital tool for personal growth and youth development.

Sited in 40 hectares of land, the Bayelsa International Stadium with a capacity of 25,000, is expected to be completed in 24months.
