Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has directed the immediate domestication of campaign against Female Genital Mutilation (FGN) at both rural and urban areas of the State
Governor Uzodimma and his wife, Chioma were guests at the commemoration event of the 2025 International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, marked every February 6, by the United Nations and its sister organs.
In their separate speeches, the Governor and his wife discouraged the practice, urging communities who still subject girls to such practices to desist from it as they risk maiming the girls or subjecting them to psychological stress as they advance in life.

Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Ibrahim and the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, condemned the Female Genital Mutilation practice, describing it as a violation of human rights which exposes girls to difficulties either right after the practice or later in life.
With the theme; “Step Up the Pace: Strengthening Alliances and Building Movements to End Female Genital Mutilation”, the champaign calls for immediate action to end what is adjudged a societal menace.
