Gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa group launched a deadly attack on Zogirma village in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Friday, evening, killing three mobile police officers and injuring civilians.
According to a post by security analyst Bakatsine on X, the attack occurred around 5:00pm, the same time a planned cash distribution was scheduled to take place in the community.
The funds were reportedly meant for residents but the team in charge of the disbursement were still in Bunza town when they were alerted of a possible security threat and called off the trip.
The attackers, riding in pairs on two motorcycles, stormed the village heavily armed. Though the operation failed to intercept the money, the gunmen opened fire on civilians, leaving several injured. One victim was reportedly shot in the stomach, with severe injuries exposing internal organs.
The three mobile police officers assigned to secure the distribution point were shot dead at the village entrance, marking a bloody end to the foiled ambush.
