Gunmen attack soldiers guarding pipeline in Rivers

Unidentified gunmen suspected to be cultists attacked and injured soldiers guarding an oil companys pipeline at Okporowo community in the Orlukwor clan, Ahoada East Local Government Area, Rivers State. According to a confidential source, the attack carried out on Monday, February 10, was led by a notorious gang leader who is reportedly on the watchlist of security agencies. While no lives were lost, the gunmen opened fire on the soldiers, leaving some injured. It is suspected that a soldier sustained serious injuries, but no reports of fatality yet. I just learnt that there is massive reinforcement from the military, the source told The Nation. The Eze Igbu Orlukwor II, Eze Prince Ike Ehie JP, and Eze Ehie II confirmed the incident and condemned the attack, calling it an affront to constituted authorities. He stated, It is an affront and insult to constituted authorities for civilians under any guise to shoot at military officers on their constitutionally assigned responsibilities. Eze Ehie called on the government to identify and apprehend the perpetrators and urged security agencies to act with professionalism while avoiding harassment of innocent residents during their operations. Describing Orlukwor as a peaceful and hospitable kingdom, Eze Ehie pledged to work closely with security agencies to end the illegal proliferation of arms among the youth.
