 Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, says he does not owe anyone an explanation regarding the peace deal reached with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, insisting that what matters is that peace has finally returned to Rivers State. Wike spoke during a media chat monitored in Abuja on Thursday, addressing questions about his recent reconciliation with Fubara after months of intense political tension that threatened to destabilize the oil-rich state. The rift between the two leaders had sparked a major political crisis in Rivers, drawing national attention and prompting interventions from prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu, who reportedly brokered the truce. Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a powerful figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accused unnamed individuals of profiting from the conflict, saying they had turned the crisis into a personal oil well, using it to enrich themselves. Those who were benefitting from the crisis are not happy that we have made peace, Wike said. They were busy collecting money here and there, fuelling problems just to line their pockets. He stressed that he owed no one an explanation for the details of the reconciliation, maintaining that what was important was that stability had been restored to the state. Wikes remarks come amid ongoing speculation over the political concessions that may have been made to secure the truce.
