JSS3 student allegedly kills teacher over seized cap

A Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS-3) student has been arrested in Oju Local Government Area of Benue State for allegedly beating his teacher to death during a dispute over a seized school cap.
The incident occurred on Thursday at UBE Secondary School, Oju Centre.
The student, identified as 16-year-old Friday Ogamude, was said to have confronted his teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, 35, demanding the return of a cap confiscated in May 2025.
Eyewitnesses reported that the confrontation turned violent when the student allegedly attacked the teacher during a heated exchange. Mr. Oyibe reportedly collapsed on the spot.
He was rushed to Amara Hospital in Oju, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead on arrival.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary in Oju for autopsy.
Police authorities have confirmed the arrest of the suspect and described the incident as “deeply troubling,” assuring the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that justice will be served.
