Unless the federal and state governments provide adequate security for health facilities and workers in rural communities, rural to urban migration as well as japa overseas will only keep increasing.
This is the concern of the President of National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, Haruna Mamman while commending the Katsina State government for efforts to rescue an abducted nurse in the state and for intervening to avert a strike by nurses in the state.
On the strike by nurses in Ondo State, Mamman questioned why governments at all levels will hold on to the welfare packages of staff in such a critical and essential services sector as health, warning that all state chapters agitating for improved conditions of service have the backing of the national body, which is an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC

Mamman, who emerged NANNM president on October 31, 2024, said the registration of all Nigerian nurses to get the actual statistics for both public and private sectors is on going.
