Kebbi government considers death penalty for bandit informants

Following renewed attacks by armed bandits in Kebbi State, the state government has announced plans to review existing laws to impose the death penalty or life imprisonment on informants who aid bandits. Governor Nasiru Idris made the announcement on Tuesday, June 24, during condolence visits to Tadurga village in Zuru and Kyebu in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Areas, where recent bandit attacks claimed 30 lives. Describing informants as a deadly threat to society, Governor Idris said his administration will take the issue of security seriously and will not tolerate any form of complicity. He revealed that arrangements have been finalized to establish an army operational base in Zuru Emirate to strengthen security in the area. The governor also confirmed the immediate deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other security equipment from Abuja to Kebbi State. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and prayed for the victims, saying, We are here to see things for ourselves, commiserate with you and reassure you about the urgent actions taken to bolster the security of lives and property of the people. Governor Idris highlighted his administrations investments in security, including the procurement of 80 Hilux vehicles for security personnel, distribution of 1,500 motorcycles to vigilantes, and increased allowances for operatives working in troubled areas. He urged the public not to politicize the security situation or make unguarded comments on social media that could undermine ongoing efforts. The post Kebbi government considers death penalty for bandit informants appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
