Key Players Discuss Funding, Strengthening Research Landscape In Nigeria

With Nigeria currently grappling with multiple health and developmental challenges, key players from the academia and the health sector say research remains the backbone of sustainable solutions.

They therefore called for urgent action to strengthen Nigeria’s research landscape and greater investment in research and impactful studies in the nation’s universities to drive development across the country.

A meeting in Abuja, put together by the National Health Research Ethics Committee and the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria addressed action plans to empower researchers, drive ethical standards, and ensure research outcomes inform policy and public health interventions.

The various speakers emphasized the need for increased funding for research across Nigerian universities.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Salako, who was represented by Dr. Lolade Adeyemi, said in a message to the Conference that ethical leadership and innovation are central to strengthening Nigeria’s health systems.

The Conference called for urgent actions to strengthen Nigeria’s research landscape and greater investment in research and impactful studies in the nation’s universities to drive development across the country.
