“We will embark on an indefinite strike, should our demands for payment of 15 months salary arrears, promotion, minimum wage implementation, remain unmet”. That is the threat by electricity workers on Wednesday, when they shut down business activities at the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC headquarters in Abuja.
The workers under the umbrella of National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity Employees, SSAEE.
The workers said the picketing was a result of failed attention to several correspondences to the management and vow to down tool without announcement should their request not be granted.
The AEDC Managing Director, Chijioke Okwuokenye, assured the workers of efforts of management to meet their demands unfailingly.
