Many killed in Okija stampede during distribution of Christmas food items

Reports confirmed by the Police say several people have been killed in a stampede in Okija community in Ihiala local government area of Anambra State, South-East Nigeria.with many others wounded while some are still unconscious.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of Anambra State Command, Tochukwu Ikenga states that the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday during the annual event and distribution of food items by a renowned philanthropist.

The people were said to have gathered to receive food items provided by the philanthropist who is an indigene of the community when an uncontrolled number of persons took over the event even before the activities started leading to a stampede, the police statement added

AIT.live gathered that the number of affected person and their identities are yet to be ascertained and operatives of the police have taken over the scene of the incident for proper investigation
