The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist identified as Hassan Isah Sidi of Millionaires Quarters, Lafia, and recovered a firearm during a routine patrol in the state capital.
According to a statement released to journalists by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the arrest occurred around 12:10 a.m. on July 8, 2025, behind the A.A Rano Gas Plant in Lafia when operatives from the Ombi 1 Division intercepted three young men dressed in red clothing, an attire commonly associated with cult groups.
The statement explained that on sighting the patrol team, the suspects fled, but one of them, Hassan Isah Sidi, of Millionaires Quarters, Lafia, was apprehended after a chase and a search of the suspect led to the recovery of an English-made pistol and charms suspected to be used for unlawful activities.
Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the two remaining suspects.
The Nasarawa state commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Mohammed, commended the patrol team for their swift action and reaffirmed the Command’s determination to eradicate cultism and related crimes in the state.
The Command however appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons and activities to the nearest police station.
