The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) has warned that the sector will face a severe situation in the coming days if the indefinite strike by Petroleum Tanker Drivers which is affecting truck loading of diesel and supply is not addressed.
A statement released on Sunday by ATCON president, Tony Emoekpere said the situation is also impacting telecom base stations with many of them running on low fuel levels.
ATCON therefore called on governors of Lagos and Ogun States to intervene in the looming crisis and facilitate the release of diesel from depots to telecom operators to prevent the situation from plunging the sector into further crisis.

The association also appealed to security agencies and petroleum sector unions to resolve the crisis immediately.
It said this latest development in the telecoms sector may further compound challenges it currently faces with labour unions kicking against the implementation of a fifty percent hike in telecom tariff with a plan for nationwide protest on March 1, 2025.
