North-East Development Commission To Establish Zonal Sports Academy

The North-East Development Commission says it plans to establish a sports academy for the region in Bauchi State.

Managing Director of the Commission, Dr. Mohammed Alkali, said this in Bauchi at the official opening of the grand finale of the North East Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Competition, organized by the North-East Development Commission.

According to Dr. Alkali and other speakers at the event the academy, when fully established, will provide youths who have passion for sports with opportunities to participate in both domestic and international competitions.

For over a decade now, Nigeria’s North-East has been devastated by the activities of insurgents and terrorists that have led to the considerable loss of lives and property and many persons rendered displaced.

The North-East Development Commission believes the organization of sports competitions among the secondary schools across the zone, alongside the academy, will help foster peace and unity among the diverse communities in the geopolitical zone.
