Outrage Over Lawmaker’s Alleged Assault on Uber Driver in Abuja

There has been outrage across social media over viral video of a member of the House of Representatives representing Aba North & South Federal Constituency, Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, allegedly assaulting a driver of an e-hailing company in Abuja.

The video which went viral in the early hours of Monday captures the lawmaker angrily confronting the driver, who he said disrespected him by asking him to step outside to receive his parcel.

The situation escalated when he was shown to have hit the driver repeatedly while allegedly threatening to “make him disappear” without consequences.

As of the time of filing this report, the lawmaker was yet to respond to a WhatsApp message and calls to his mobile line by AIT’s correspondent.

The video has drawn condemnation across social media, with many accusing the member of the house of exploiting his position as they insist justice must prevail.
