Parents have been urged to support the efforts in the fight against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) by making their children available for vaccination to prevent them against the deadly disease.
The Media Advocacy Meeting on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccines, organised by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund and the ondo state Government which held in Akure, the ondo state capital, also urged the media to sustain the advocacy on their platforms.
According to available statistics Human Papilloma virus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the world.
The HPV when not early detected and treated lead to cervical cancer in women.

To reduce this risk, the interface which include media managers, Health experts and representative of Ondo state Government is organized with a common goal to ensure citizens are well informed about disease prevention and the importance of vaccination.
The media was also advised to step up the advocacy and use their various platforms to promote and protect children’s rights to enable them reach their God-given potentials.
HPV vaccine is provided free to girls aged nine to fourteen, and the immunization period will run until December 2024.
