A 22-year-old passenger, simply identified as Kabiru, has been reported dead after sustaining a fatal head injury in a road accident near Bukky’s Court along Obafemi Awolowo Way in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
The accident involved a green and white lorry laden with timber, registered as LAGOS BS 385 KJA, and an unidentified Bajaj motorcycle carrying two male passengers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on Friday, stating that it occurred at about 7:30 pm on Wednesday.
According to her: “The Ago-Iwoye Divisional Police Officer reported a fatal road traffic accident at about 19:30 hours near Bukky’s Court along Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ago-Iwoye.
“A green and white lorry laden with timber was involved in the accident, with registration number LAGOS BS 385 KJA, driven by Mr Wakilu Tanfeku, 71, of Oke Alafia Street, Ijebu-Igbo, and an unidentified Bajaj motorcycle carrying two male passengers.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the motorcycle, travelling in the same direction as the lorry, attempted to overtake from the driver’s side. However, in a miscalculation, the rider suddenly lost control, causing the motorcycle to fall onto the road.
“Tragically, one of the pillion passengers, identified as Kabiru, 22, from Awa Ijebu, sustained fatal head injuries and died instantly, while the second passenger, Ayomide Oyadele, 21, of No. 5 Itunla Street, Awa Ijebu, suffered facial and leg injuries and was rushed to Love and Care Hospital for medical treatment.”
The police spokesperson noted that the remains of the deceased have been transferred to the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital Morgue for an autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to recover the lorry for further inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Office.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has urged all road users, especially motorcyclists, to exercise extreme caution when overtaking and to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.
