The police in collaboration with vigilante members in Niger State, North-Central Nigeria have succeeded in intercepting and recovering 520 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
In a statement by police spokesperson, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, the incident occurred on Thursday at about 12:30 am.
Abiodun explained that the feat was achieved during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Bida-Nku-Patigi road, which connects Niger State to Kwara State when the police stopped a motorcycle carrying two individuals, but upon interrogation, the suspects fled.
It was also gathered that the two fleeing suspects were travelling from Niger State to Patigi in Kwara State when they were intercepted by the police, and upon being questioned, the suspects became visibly agitated and fidgety.
According to him, the suspects sensing danger, fled the scene and abandoned a sack containing the ammunition.
The police, therefore, stated that the exhibit is under investigation as efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects.
