‘Political Refugee’ – APC responds to Kwankwaso’s 2027 predictions

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has dismissed former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso’s recent claims that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will significantly reduce the APC’s influence in the state during the 2027 elections. In a statement issued on Thursday, December 26, Abdullahi Abass, APC’s Kano chapter chairman, described Kwankwaso’s assertions as “laughable” and a “mere daydream.” He urged Kwankwaso to focus on regaining his position within the NNPP rather than making baseless remarks. “Our teeming supporters in the APC have no cause to worry about Kwankwaso, who has been booted out of the NNPP due to his cluelessness and self-centredness,” Abass said. He further criticised Kwankwaso’s political trajectory, calling him a “political refugee” relying on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to maintain relevance. The APC also accused Kwankwaso of exaggerating NNPP’s influence in the 2023 elections, alleging that results were manipulated to create a false sense of dominance. “He ran away from APC because he couldn’t fit into our progressive ideals. His over-bloated ego and domineering posture forced him to abandon the PDP, and now he has become a wanderer,” Abass added. Kwankwaso, speaking on Wednesday, December 25, at an event where he welcomed political decampees, claimed the NNPP had grown strong enough to challenge APC in 2027. “NNPP achieved tremendous success in the presidential and governorship elections despite being a new political platform,” he said. The APC dismissed these remarks, affirming its confidence in retaining Kano’s political dominance.
