The Presidency is pushing back strongly against what it describes as deliberate media mischief, following reports that falsely linked Vice President Kashim Shettima’s recent remarks to the political crisis in Rivers State.
Speaking to State House Correspondents on Friday, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, expressed what he called serious concern over reports twisting the Vice President’s comments at a book launch in Abuja.
He clarified that the Vice President was simply reflecting on his personal experience as Governor of Borno State during the Jonathan administration, not commenting on the current situation in Rivers State.
Nkwocha further explained that the Vice President’s remarks were centered on Nigeria’s constitutional history and had no connection to recent political interventions in Rivers.
The Presidency maintained that President Tinubu’s actions in Rivers State strictly followed constitutional provisions specifically Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution and were aimed at restoring order amid growing tension.

It also warned media outlets and political actors against what it called the reckless practice of twisting facts to create false narratives.
The Presidency stressed that Vice President Shettima fully supports President Tinubu’s actions and described the reports as an attempt to manufacture division within the government.
It urged the media to uphold accuracy and responsibility, warning against deliberate misrepresentation of public officials’ statements.
The Presidency says it remains committed to transparency and constitutional governance, calling on the media to report responsibly.
