Sunshine Queens head coach, Rafiu Oseni, has said that the 2025 President’s Federation Cup served as a vital preparatory platform for the club’s forthcoming promotion play-off.
The Akure-based side bowed out of the tournament after suffering a 4–0 defeat to Nasarawa Amazons in the final quarter-final match held on Wednesday.
Oseni, however, assured supporters that the team possesses the requisite quality to gain promotion to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).
“We have some players in the team who were not eligible to play for us in this year’s President Federation Cup, but will be available for the Championship,” Oseni stated after the game in Abuja.
“They played very well against a more experienced side, who are currently playing in the league.
“Sometimes in football, your style of play may not reflect in the actual scoreline.”
“The good thing about the President Federation Cup is that it afforded us the opportunity to assess our team better.
“All the deficiencies observed here will be worked on immediately we return to our base in Akure.”
With the play-off looming, Oseni remains confident in his squad’s ability to rise to the challenge.
