Barely 24 hours after the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok Ette Ibas (Rtd.) as Administrator of Rivers State, the former Naval Chief has arrived at the State House Abuja where he will be locked in a meeting with President Tinubu.
He is expected to be briefed on the expectations of the Presidency as he heads to River State later on Wednesday for the assignment.
President Bola Tinubu had announced Ibas as Rivers state Administrator on Tuesday in a nationwide broadcast where the President cited the need to act in the interest of the people of Rivers State.
Tinubu clarified that this directive does not affect the judicial arm of government, which will continue to function as mandated by the Constitution.
The decision comes amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State. latest of which was a pipeline explosion near the Bodo-Bonny Road, under construction.
It affected the country’s major liquid hydrocarbon delivery channel, which can transport about 180,000 barrels of crude per day to the Bonny Export Terminal.
