Road Accident Claims 12 Lives on Agaie-Lapai Highway in Niger State

12 people died today in Niger State when a Wemer passenger bus carrying 15 people travelling from Minna to Katcha local government Area had a head-on collision with a trailer at Jippo village near Mashina community.

The accident left several other people with injuries.

The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Kumar Tsukwam said his team is still at the scene to collect accurate details.

According to an eyewitness account, three of the deceased women were from the same family while three other passengers, including two women and the driver who sustained varying degrees of injuries are receiving treatment at Lapai General Hospital.

Speaking on his hospital bed, the driver of the passenger bus identified as Mohammed Baba said the accident occurred when the trailer driver attempted to overtake another vehicle making him lose control of the bus, leading to the head-on collision.

Baba added that the trailer driver immediately fled the scene.
