The people of Bayelsa State have been thrown into mourning by a fatal accident that claimed the life of the traditional ruler of Ofoni Community in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Daniel Alabrah, said the incident occurred when the vehicle conveying the royal father and 13 other traditional rulers skidded off the road and ran into a bush along Sagbama-Ekeremor expressway in Bayelsa State.
The statement said the occupants of the vehicle were rescued and taken to Sagbama General Hospital where those injured were given first aid while others with more serious injuries were stabilised and transferred to Niger Delta Teaching Hospital.

The late monarch was part of a delegation accompanying Bayelsa West Senator, Henry Seriake Dickson on a visit to Governor Douye Diri at his country home.
Upon learning about the development, the governor directed that the event be cancelled.
Governor Diri expressed condolences to the paramount ruler’s family and the people of Ofoni community.
