Russia-Ukraine war: Ramp up economic pressure on Putin – Lammy urges Japan

Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom, David Lammy has urged Japan to help Ukraine by increasing economic pressure on Russia President Vladimir Putin.
In a televised statement made alongside his Japanese counterpart Takeshi Iwaya in Tokyo on Friday, Lammy said: “Our shared interests in a stable international system and rules-based trade is absolutely clear and fundamental.
“Europe is stepping up, but Japan can help too, including on ramping up economic pressure on [Vladimir] Putin.”
This is coming less than 24 hours after the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen has insisted that Europe faces a ‘clear and present danger’ amid the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.
According to Von der Leyen, European countries must be able to defend themselves and put Ukraine in a position of strength against Russia.
Ukraine and Russia have been fighting for more than three years and alot of casualties have been recorded on both sides.
