The Nasarawa State government has taken over the prosecution of Timilehin Ajayi, the 32-year-old suspected killer of a 24-year-old Corps Member, Salome Adaidu.
The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Hauwa Samuel Jugbo, said in a statement that already a letter has been sent to the Commissioner of Police dated Friday March 07, 2025 to hand over the case as she will lead a dedicated team of Law Officers from the ministry of justice to prosecute the case.
The Attorney-General explained thatthe decision was in accordance with the powers conferred on her by virtue of section 211(1) of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, as amended, and therefore advised the Commissioner of Police to transmit all the relevant documents and proof of evidence pertaining to the case to her office to enable the Nasarawa state government to continue with the prosecution.

The suspect, Timilehin Ajayi, who had pleaded not guilty to the killing of Salome Adaidu in January before Justice Simon Aboki of the Nasarawa State High Court sitting in Lafia, is facing trial on a one count charged of culpable homicide punishable by death, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
24-year-old Corps Member, Salome Adaidu was murdered when she visited the suspect at his house in the Papalana axis of New Karshi in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The case was adjourned from 17th to 20th March for accelerated hearing.
