The Nigerian Senate has appointed Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central as the new Chairman Senate Committee on Sports.
President of the senate Godswill Akpabio, while announcing the appointment, recalled his earlier decision to assign Ningi to chair the Senate Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
He however, noted that Ningi’s background in sports having been a national hockey player and serving as President of the Nigeria Hockey Federation for over 16 years made him well suited for the sports committee.
Akpabio tasked Ningi with ensuring Nigeria’s participation in the Olympics and securing victories for the country.
He expressed confidence that, under Ningi’s leadership, Nigeria’s sports sector would experience a major transformation.
Other Senate Committee Appointments are Senator Sahabi Alhaji Yaú (Zamfara North) – Chairman, Senate Committee on FERMA.
Senator Isa Lau (Taraba North) – Chairman, Senate Committee on Privatization.
Senator Musa Maidoki (Kebbi South) – Initially assigned to the Sports Committee, will continue to head senate committee on Legislative Compliance.
