The Sokoto State government says it has paid compensation to land owners acquired for the development of various projects in the state.
The Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Survey, and Town Planning, Nasiru Aliyu Dan Tsoho said this in an interview with journalists in Sokoto.
He said the acquired lands were for Federal Government projects in the state such as the Federal College of Education, which could not take- off because of compensation issues.
He said the governor Ahmad Aliyu-led administration has recently paid 104 million naira to the affected landowners for the project to proceed.
Also paid for is the earlier acquired land for irrigation farming by the immediate past administration.
According to him, the governor paid 216 million naira to the land owners.
On the issue of contract variation due to inflation, he said the governor was resolving the issues.
He accused the immediate past administration of the indiscriminate and multiple sale of government houses and excision of plots.
A judicial commission of inquiry has since been instituted into the dealings of the past administration on the matter.
