The Taraba State Government has debunked claims in some quarters that the Deputy Governor Aminu Alkali, who has been ill for over three months, and is currently receiving treatment, is incapacitated.
The state’s Commissioners for Information and Re-Orientation, as well as for Health, cleared the air on the health status of the deputy Governor while addressing Journalists in Jalingo.
The absence from the Office of the Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Aminu Alkali, since November 2024, due to ill health, has generated concerns from various quarters, about his ability to continue in his official duties.
The Commissioner for Health, Bodiya Buma, told newsmen that he was mandated by the state government to visit Cairo, Egypt, where the Deputy Governor was receiving medical treatment.
Buma said, based on his assessment as a medical doctor, the deputy governor has suffered a stroke, and is recuperating well enough and is expected to resume his official duties soon
The Commissioner for Information and Re-Orientation, Zainab Jalingo, who spoke further on the development, sought the understanding and sympathy of all, as the deputy governor is human, and prone to falling ill like anyone else.
On the position of the law, with regards to those calling for the Deputy Governor’s replacement, due to his over three months absence from duty, she stated that the law is only applicable to a sitting Governor.
