Trump, Biden, Obama Honour ex-President Jimmy Carter at State Funeral

Tributes have been paid to ex-US President Jimmy Carter at his State funeral in Washington.

All five living Presidents, Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Barack Obama, George W Bush, and Bill Clinton exchanged words before the service.

Carter, who was President from 1977 to 1981, died in December, aged 100

Trump and Kamala Harris, who competed in November’s US election , did not shake hands.

Carter’s former Ambassador to the European Union, Stuart Eizenstat, praised Carter’s “integrity” after he entered the Oval office, following flashpoints like Watergate and the Vietnam war, which had dominated the US.

He said the test of American Presidents is not the number of years they serve, but the duration of their accomplishments.

By this measure, he said Jimmy Carter was among the most consequential one-term Presidents in American history.
