We will continue to provide enabling environment for Plateau youths to thrive – Mutfwang

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has assured youths in the state of his administration’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for them to thrive.
Mutfwang gave the assurance on the occasion of the official Ground-Breaking Ceremony for Plateau Agro-Innovation MakerSpace at Plateau State Polytechnic’s main campus, Barkin Ladi LGA of the state.
He said, “We would continue to provide support for this kind of initiative so that we would be able to boost the tech ecosystem on the Plateau.”
According to him, “We are currently in the process of establishing the Business Process Outsourcing Centre on the Plateau, which would boost the innovative minds of our young ones.
“What it means is that we can actually stay in our Business Process Outsourcing Centre, work for a company in America, and earn dollars.
“This is not going to be for lazy people, but for those who have made up their minds to be useful and productive,” he maintained.
“We will continue to provide an enabling environment to allow for this kind of evolution.
“So, this MakerSpace provides a platform for cross-fertilisation of ideas to bring a formidable solution.”
While appreciating the UNDP for the partnership, the governor said, “I look forward to building a future for our young people, and I pray that this will be the beginning of greater stories to tell,” he maintained.
Also speaking, the Resident Representative of the UNDP, Ms. Elsie Attafuah, said, “I commend Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his bold leadership and commitment to transforming Plateau State into a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.”
She also applauded the state government for fostering an environment where young people can thrive, create, and lead in sectors critical to Nigeria’s future.
According to her, “The Makerspace as a Game-Changer is not just a building; it is a launchpad for ideas, a factory for innovation, and a catalyst for prosperity.
“The Jos Agro-Innovation Makerspace will give entrepreneurs, inventors, and artisans the tools to turn ideas into prototypes, prototypes into businesses, and businesses into industries.
“It will redefine how agriculture is practiced in Plateau State, from drone-powered precision farming to agro-processing that adds value to raw produce.
“Plateau’s youth will now have the opportunity to lead in Agro-Tech, Green Economy, and Digital Innovation, positioning the state as a national leader in smart agriculture and manufacturing,” she explained.
“The state is moving beyond subsistence agriculture towards technology-driven food systems, modern manufacturing, and a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“This Makerspace perfectly aligns with the state’s agenda, equipping young people to develop, test, and scale solutions that will transform the local economy.
“UNDP stands firmly as a partner in this journey, committed to supporting Plateau State’s quest for sustainable development.
“Today is not just a groundbreaking ceremony; it is the beginning of a movement that will transform lives and shape the future,” Attafuah stressed.
Earlier in his welcome address, Acting Rector of Plateau State Polytechnic, Dr. Clement Chirman, said, “The Polytechnic is poised to expand its knowledge through collaborations to harvest opportunities that will add value in its drive to produce graduates that will compete favourably in our new age.”
“Apart from this groundbreaking event, our institution is working in collaboration with NBTE to cultivate about 21 hectares of the institution’s land with soya beans, maize, and Irish potato, among other partnerships,” he stressed.
