Women constitute 35% of Nigerian bank directors — Cardoso

The Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Olayemi Cardoso has said that women constitute 35 percent of Nigerian banks appointed directors.
Cardoso disclosed this in his remarks at the apex bank grand finale for the 2025 International Women’s Day commemoration at the CBN headquarters in Abuja.
He further stressed that three out of seven non-executive boards are in the country’s financial sector.
He described gender equality as both a moral and economic necessity, stressing that the financial sector thrives when diverse leadership perspectives are embraced.
“At the CBN, we are proud to be part of this global movement. Women now make up 35 percent of recently appointed directors and three out of the seven non-executive board members, showing our firm commitment to fostering inclusive leadership in Nigeria’s financial sector,” Cardoso stated.
