Yekini-Goloba drags Lagos govt to court, seeks nullification of Isolo ruler’s appointment

Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba has instituted legal action against the Lagos State Government and other stakeholders over the installation of Prince Isa Abiodun Shekoni-Faronbi as the traditional ruler of Isolo.
In the suit filed before the Lagos State High Court and registered as LD/13362/2025, Yekini-Goloba is asking the court to declare him as the rightful heir to the Isolo throne.
His claim is based on the principle of rotation among the ruling houses in the Isolo Kingdom and the purported endorsement of the Alagbeji Ruling House, which he maintains is next in line to produce the monarch.
Listed as defendants in the suit are Prince Isa Abiodun Shekoni-Faronbi, the Governor of Lagos State, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Chieftaincy Committee of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, and the Executive Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Council.
Represented by legal counsel, Professor Olarenwaju Fagbohun, SAN, Yekini-Goloba is seeking a range of declaratory and injunctive orders. Among these are the nullification of the nomination, approval, and subsequent installation of Shekoni-Faronbi, as well as a directive compelling the state government and its officials to recognise and install him as the legitimate Osolo of Isolo.
According to the filed documents, Yekini-Goloba argues that the Alagbeji Ruling House, to which he belongs, is historically and traditionally next in succession following the death of the late Oba Kabiru Alani Adelaja Agbabiaka (Adeola Olushi III) in April 2024.
He claims to have received overwhelming support from his ruling house and was duly selected by the Kingmakers after undergoing consultation with the Ifa oracle and a transparent internal voting process.
In his sworn affidavit, Yekini-Goloba details his ancestral ties to all three officially recognised royal houses in Isolo, Alagbeji, Okota, and Adeola, asserting that Shekoni-Faronbi’s appointment contravened customary processes and was carried out while a related case was already pending in court.
He is also urging the court to order the withdrawal of all instruments of office, including the staff of office, from Shekoni-Faronbi. Furthermore, he is demanding the sum of N50 million as compensation for the cost of pursuing the legal action.
