Cash and weapons stolen as thieves break into South African traffic department’s office from the roof

The Kouga municipality has confirmed a break-in and weapons theft at the Humansdorp traffic department, which occurred over a long public holiday weekend.  The break-in is believed to have taken place on April 28. When security personnel arrived to open the premises on April 29, they noticed clear signs of forced entry and immediately alerted the police. The site was subsequently secured and declared a crime scene. The investigation has since been taken over by the Hawks. Kouga Municipal Manager Charl du Plessis stated that initial assessments revealed significant damage to the building and its internal infrastructure. The alarm system had been deliberately dismantled, suggesting the perpetrators had high technical expertise. “It is clear those responsible possessed advanced knowledge of security systems and their components,” Du Plessis said. The break-in was described as “highly calculated.” Investigators discovered that the perpetrators had removed roof sheets to gain access to the building. They entered through the roof into a walk-in safe, using power tools and heavy-duty construction equipment.
