The seventy-six minors of Kano State origin, recently released to the state government from detention in Abuja over their arrest in connection with the end bad governance protest have been reunited with their families after two weeks of rehabilitation.
With fifty of them granted free education and others promised skills acquisition to empower them, Governor Abba Yusuf warned them not to engage in any violent protest in the future.
The release of the seventy six minors to their state governments two weeks ago still remains a miracle to them, as they recount the terrible ordeal they went through while in detention in Abuja, adding that they are victims of circumstance.
The children who were received two weeks ago malnourished and sick, completed their medical and psycho-social therapy as ordered by Governor Abba Yusuf.
With support from UNICEF and Bafarawa foundation, the children are now being certified socially, psychologically and medically fit to return home.
Represented by the chief of staff Sheue Sagagy at the ceremony which had their parents and other partners in attendance, Governor Yusuf called on the children to embrace education.
With Muhammadu Buhari specialist hospital playing host to the children’s rehabilitation, UNICEF wants the center properly put to use and advocated for a non-custodial approach as a way of correcting minors and juvenile delinquencies.
