Former Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has called on leaders at all levels to emulate the virtues of the late High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi as a patriot, politician and philanthropist who exemplified the virtues of loyalty, justice and service by taking the art of communication to a new level and made significant contributions to human progress.
Jonathan said this at the 1st Raymond Dokpesi Diamond Lecture organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR and DAAR Communications PLCin honour of late media magnate, High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi in Abuja.
The lecture was held on the occasion of Dokpesi’s posthumous birthday after he passed away on May 29, 2023. The aim of the gathering was to honour him for his immense contributions to the Nigeria’s development.
In his address, Dr. Jonathan said the late Raymond Dokpesi was a blazing entrepreneur and visionary media icon whose impact on the industry has continued to reshape the society. He said Dokpesi strengthened the platform for accountability, equity, justice and responsible governance across the continent.
The keynote speaker, Dapo Olorunyomi, in his lecture on “Communication and Development” raised concerns about the increasing divisive tone of public discourse in Nigeria.
Other speakers eulogised late High chief Dokpesi with an appeal to the Federal Government to always allow freedom of speech by the citizens.
Late High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi was born on October 25, 1951 and he died on May 29, 2023. The Raymond Dokpesi Diamond Lecture will hold every year in honour of the late media magnate.
